Natural gas (methane) is a hydrocarbon derivative, explosive gas class and lighter than air. Therefore, during leakage, the gas will rise towards the ceiling. Taking this situation into account, the detectors should be installed 5-15cm down from the ceiling and 1-2m horizontally away from the gas source. Methane detectors sound and visually alarm before the gas leak reaches the 20% LEL (lower explosion limit) level.
